A Chinese man, 15, was detained by police in Ohio after he allegedly posted offensive comments on Facebook about a dead Chinesewoman, according to media reports. Authorities in DeWitt, near Cincinnati, detained the teen on Saturday after he allegedly posted on Facebook pictures of the body of 32-year-old Fangkai Tian and used profanity to insult and call her names.
He then uploaded a picture of the newspaper with the letter ‘F’ on it and wrote, ‘Hey guys, I’m posting this on behalf of Fangkai’s family who loves your families and your country’, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer.
The local coroner’s office confirmed the woman’s death. Fangkai’s family can now bury her without incident, while the accused teenager could face harassment charges.
A police spokesman told the The Cincinnati Enquirer: ‘The pictures showed an obviously deceased individual. It was obvious this was not a joke’.
According to local reports, he also admitted to making the Facebook posts.
The judge of DeWitt County, where the incident occurred, was quoted by The Cincinnati Enquirer as saying that it was ‘disgraceful and tasteless to insult the people by using profane language and putting pictures up’.
The local prosecutor added: ‘I think it shows a lack of respect and morals’.
The arrest was made after Fangkai’s friends discovered the comments and contacted their sheriff’s office. Police later searched his computer and found more offensive posts about her.
The teenager was released on $25,000 bail and will appear in court in July.
