ABBA Gold Greatest Hits Full Album Zip
ABBA Gold is ABBA Greatest Hits with a few extra tracks from their album ABBA Gold. Its about ten years since I last bought an ABBA album so when I saw that this one had been rereleased with five unreleased bonus tracks I felt justified in buying it again. And what a bargain it is, as the collection costs less than half the price of the original ABBA Gold album. ABBA Gold is just a compilation of their biggest hits, and the bonus material includes the first versions of two of their biggest singles, Daddy Cool and Mona Lisa.
Its ABBA Gold again, so thats nice, but the real news is the five unreleased tracks on this album. Its interesting to hear how different the quality of the reissue is, especially on tracks like Hello My Baby. A free single at the time of release, it was included on the debut album Abba Gold and the critics sneered at it as an experimental dalliance on the part of the band which has since taken them to the heights of pop stardom. The first version of Daddy Cool is funny to hear, with a beat and sense of groove which are incredibly strong. And the second versions of Daddy Cool and Mona Lisa are given their own separate shout-outs in the tracklist, which is something I really appreciate. I also like that the four bonus tracks sound like theyve been recorded live, unlike the other ABBA Gold ones. Its a good album which I would recommend, especially if you havent yet bought the original.
Even this years one – which is stunning imo – I dont want to listen to over and over because Im quite sure I have it memorized. But when I want to hear an amazing version of a song or discover a minor gem in the band Im listening to – Take a Chance on Me, Our Last Summer, I Will Follow You, Dancing Queen – I go to the digital version. I know if I watch a compilation video on YouTube, its not going to be as good – and I will. So why would I pay for the same thing digitally? If I want to experience it as the band intended I will buy the original – which I have – or a remastered version. I dont think Ive ever owned an original ABBA album and Im not about to start. I just like to be able to listen to the versions that I like and not to whatever competing version keeps a bargain store selling out of copies.
As the ABBA hits roll on, the interest in their catalog begins to expand. The rise of such social issues as the AIDS crisis and the women’s movement introduced a new audience to the group’s pop chemistry. A smaller-scale side project, the title track from The Visitors — its holiday EMI single spun off an All I Wanna Do All I Wanna Do theme for that year’s Grammy-winning Nightline — also brought together a band of some of the most talented Swedish musicians in the 1970s. The track, a sort of mini-ABBA, featured a guest cello provided by the brother of another ABBA member. When the ABBA hits, no one is safe.
The Visitors, the first album released after ABBA Gold was released, solidified the band’s legacy — helping to officially introduce those Swedish synth-pop band members to a new audience. But the album also laid the groundwork for success that’s come along since: Lyngstad, Andersson, and Ulvaeus teamed up to produce The Album, the first ABBA album released outside of Scandinavia.
At various points during our investigation, we thought of the other eight ABBA hits we had covered so far, and of the two we were next to cover, that is, Let Me Entertain You and Waterloo; and said both versions were good. Our minds then flipped back to the two remaining ABBA titles on the Gold set, but neither matched the need for escapism and laughter that Finding My Way fulfilled, and with a sort of dim realization that the last ABBA I was likely to write about would be the last one, we got to work on A.B.C and songs for the next album (the highly successful ABBA Gold Greatest Hits, The Singles, was due in November, 1983).
