After you gain some experience using Photoshop, you may be interested in the top-of-the-line program, Adobe Photoshop Pro, which enables you to work with the same tools that you use to create and edit images on a professional level. Photoshop Pro can be pricey if you have features you don’t need.
My favorite program for on-the-fly editing is Adobe Photoshop Elements Pro, which has many of the same tools as Photoshop but with a completely different interface. Elements is also much cheaper than Photoshop, but it does not support all of the same features.

Selling for less than $40, this program is a great option for on-the-fly editing. Some people can also learn to use this program fairly quickly. However, unlike Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Image Ready, and Adobe Photoshop Elements, you can’t export your images for printing from Adobe Image Ready.
Adobe Camera Raw
The newest versions of Adobe Photoshop have added the ability to work on RAW images. This means that you can import and edit RAW image files with Photoshop. You can also save images in JPEG format (the default), TIFF format (under Windows systems), and Exif format (common on most digital cameras).
Figure 1-1 shows a RAW image that has been opened in Photoshop. You can access the image’s settings by clicking the Eyedropper tool in the Tools palette and selecting a color from the image.

Adobe Photoshop is a large application that is powerful and complex. You can download the software to your computer, phone or iPad at Adobe.com/photoshop or Mac.adobe.com/photoshop/.

Nick Valukas, a former partner with the law firm that conducted a U.S. Senate investigation into the 2008 subprime mortgage crisis, has said the FBI failed to prosecute a banker on criminal charges of housing fraud because the case was not pressed by U.S. prosecutors.
Last week’s testimony in a Wisconsin court by Valukas underscores the importance of continued advocacy on behalf of the thousands of mortgage fraud victims who still need justice in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis.
“There’s no other group that gets as many of these cases filed against them,” Valukas told the judge presiding over the case of Rick Santoro, a former lender who allegedly helped funnel millions of dollars’ worth of fraudulently approved mortgages to wealthy buyers. “Nobody else gets them [filed] like I do.”
Valukas told the judge that the lawyers for Santoro and five others charged for conspiracy, wire fraud, and obstruction of justice between 2004 and 2008 had “lost track” of housing fraud victims because they left the law firm they worked for during the investigation. He suggested the FBI took up the case after being solicited by the law firm’s “referral,” according to an account of his testimony by Legal Times.
The nine defendants, three of them former bankers, were charged in 2006 for their roles in a conspiracy involving the fraudulent purchase and sale of more than 1,200 homes in suburban Milwaukee. Prosecutors claim the $14 million fraud had a ripple effect through the tightknit tight-knit lending industry in Wisconsin.
But over a decade after the crimes were alleged to have occurred, only two of the nine are in jail, with one defendant having died and another being released from prison. Two other defendants have pleaded guilty, and three of the defendants charged in 2006 have died. The surviving defendants — Gregory A. Robertson, Susan M. Gallie, Michael C. Galie, Santoro, and Solomon N. Breindel — have all pleaded not guilty.
Valukas’s testimony sheds light on why there have been so few convictions in mortgage fraud cases.
The main trial of the accused will begin Monday, Feb. 24, with a pretrial hearing set for Feb. 21.
