you cannot use the patch tool to add or subtract pixels or remove pixels. if your selection is not tight around the object you are trying to clone, you may find this frustrating. this is the main limitation with the tool as the destination selection is on the edge of the selection. it will blend seamlessly if the selection is tight around the object, but not so much if it is spread out. this is not the case with most cloning tools. this limitation is common with most tools in adobe, even the ones included with the program. they work great if you have a selection or brush that is tight. then if you have a selection that is either not tight or too large for the area you are cloning, the changes will be noticeable. this is also true with the healing brush tool, but at least this one has a separate healing button which makes it easier to get the correct settings. you may find with the patch tool that if you do not have a selection that is tight enough on the edges of the object, you will have to set the patch tools opacity in the menu bar to 0% or 1%. this will help it work better. it is worth trying this as the results can be very good. but the limitation of not being able to use it to add or subtract pixels or remove pixels makes it a little limiting. you can however use it to duplicate objects, which is really useful.
