If it’s not a number (or you want to make it a string if it is a number, for some reason), you’ll need a cast or
string test = (string)template.id;
The latter will need to know the type of template.id, as EditorFor will never do any conversions.
If you are getting template.id from a view model, then it’s a bit more complicated. If you have the code in the view, it should work:
