Unlike the older AutoCAD Classic, AutoCAD LT is targeted to small businesses and students and is not developed by Autodesk. It is a “light” version of AutoCAD and was created to support users who are not familiar with AutoCAD or its interface. To use AutoCAD LT, a user must first purchase a license. The user also must have a functioning scanner, which is required to read drawing files and import the drawings into the application. AutoCAD LT does not include all the drawing functions that the full-featured version has. It is cheaper and is therefore ideal for users who are new to CAD and want to enter the world of CAD. However, the functions in AutoCAD LT are not as powerful as those in AutoCAD, although some are upgraded in the full-featured version.
AutoCAD LT does not have the feature set of AutoCAD Pro, the standard version, but does have a number of other features that might appeal to users who have AutoCAD Pro or other Autodesk products and are looking for a more affordable alternative.
In addition to the main functions that any CAD system should include, AutoCAD LT has an even larger number of accessories, which include both free and paid items.
CAD Commands
AutoCAD LT does not contain the full set of commands of AutoCAD Pro, but does have a few new commands. It has commands to draw rectangles, circles, arcs, ellipses, polylines, polygonal areas, and splines. A few commands have been added to provide flexibility.
The most useful command in AutoCAD LT is the command palette, which displays a list of commands that can be performed in an application window, depending on the tool selection. To access the command palette, go to an application window, right-click any command listed in the command palette, and select Edit Command Palette from the drop-down menu. This opens the command palette, as shown in Figure 1.

Accessing a command from the command palette is similar to selecting an object in the drawing area and then using the corresponding command. To start using a command, press Enter. The next time you press Enter, the command will be performed. To cancel the command, press Esc. To exit the command palette, press the Esc key twice

The LISP scripting language was developed in the 1980s by John Warnock at a time when the AutoCAD team believed they could not release AutoCAD without including LISP as a scripting language for external applications.
In 2013, Autodesk developed the ObjectARX (.NET) framework, which allows development of software for AutoCAD.
Until 2009, the input and output of AutoCAD is a proprietary and undocumented format, the DrawingML. The current drawing standard, DWG, is officially released by Autodesk.
Technical overview
AutoCAD is written in the Pascal dialect of Object Pascal, a compiled programming language which closely resembles the C-like C++. Its two general-purpose functions are the Application Programming Interface (API), and the Scripting Language.
The API allows external applications to interact with AutoCAD, the scripting language enables AutoCAD to interact with external applications and provides access to its functions.
The AutoLISP programming language was created in AutoCAD’s early years. It was designed to let developers add programming functionality to AutoCAD and its subproducts through an Application Programming Interface (API). AutoCAD’s current version, 2016, still supports the AutoLISP API. However, some of the programming languages (e.g., LISP) that were supported by AutoLISP have been removed from AutoCAD 2016. LISP was no longer supported because it requires the LISP environment, and is no longer available for commercial use. Visual LISP was introduced to remedy this, and it is now supported by AutoCAD 2016.
Scripts are run in the AutoLISP interpreter or in the Visual LISP interpreter. When a script is run in the interpreter, it may execute in several distinct phases. It first executes the scripting engine, which allows the script to read instructions and data from the application and the AutoLISP environment. Next, it executes any user-written code, usually by calling functions in the AutoCAD application (or some other external application). After all code execution is completed, the script terminates and returns control back to AutoCAD.

The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for fabricating semiconductor devices. More particularly, the invention relates to a method and apparatus for selectively etching a surface of a semiconductor substrate to achieve precise control of surface topography.
Semiconductor device fabrication involves a large number of processes which may require precise control of the topography of the semiconductor surface on which the devices are being fabricated. In one such fabrication process, the semiconductor surface, which may be a silicon substrate, is patterned with desired features (e.g., trenches, vias, contacts, interconnects, etc.) using, for example, photolithographic techniques. Photolithographic techniques involve the application of a photoresist material to the surface of the silicon substrate. The resist material is then patterned by exposing the resist to electromagnetic radiation, such as ultraviolet (UV) radiation, at a predetermined wavelength, using a mask containing the pattern of features to be formed on the substrate. The regions of resist material exposed to the radiation are made soluble in a developing solution, which is then applied to the substrate. In the process, a feature of the pattern of the mask is transferred to the substrate at each of the selected regions exposed to the radiation. Features of the mask are typically formed of a chrome or other opaque material. Therefore, by patterning the resist, the features of the mask are transferred to the resist, and thus to the silicon substrate, at the sites of the selected regions of the resist. The selected regions of the resist may be, for example, the areas of the resist which correspond to the regions of the substrate which define the desired features (i.e., the active areas of the substrate).
The resist material may be removed, for example, by etching the exposed portions of the substrate to remove the exposed resist material or by dissolving the exposed portions of the resist material with the developing solution, leaving the desired pattern of features on the silicon substrate. The pattern of features formed on the substrate are used to fabricate various devices, for example, transistors, diodes, etc.
Etching the exposed surface portions of the substrate can be accomplished using well-known techniques. For example, a reactive ion etching process may be employed in which the silicon substrate is exposed to a plasma in a reaction chamber in which a gas, such as CF.sub.4 or CHF.sub.3, for example, is injected to form a plasma.
