the year was 1998, a time when i was living in australia.
i was working in the telstra starcomms organisation, as a software developer in the it division of the company. i was in charge of the development of several client systems, that would eventually be used by other employees of the company.
i also played in a semi-professional heavy metal band, which was a very popular band in sydney at the time.
i had been listening to the film cats and its music for a few months by this point, and i was desperate to see the film in the cinemas. i saw the film for the first time in august of 1998. it was a rather big surprise for me, having heard so much about the film. after that, i decided that i had to see the film on video as well.
when the video was released, it was on vhs, in the then current standard.
i bought the vhs, but the film was cut in places. i was really disappointed, but i did not complain. i actually found it rather interesting that the very parts of the film i liked the most were removed.
the film went on to win several academy awards, including best score. [1] it was nominated for best picture, but lost out to good will hunting. [1]
a taping that began in may of 1997 ended in september of 1997. the film was recorded over a three week period. i have watched the video many times over the years, and i have found that my opinion of the film has changed somewhat. i now find it to be a very good film, and some of the parts i disliked the most have really grown on me. i hope that you will agree, too.
at the time of recording, the film was in pre-production. the original cats was a long running musical, and had been running since 1982. it had been through many cast changes, and eventually, it was nominated for an academy award for best picture. it won four academy awards, including best score.
