ive been using final draft since version 6 and have been extremely happy with the software. i have tried other programs and final draft is the only one that i have been able to use and use to it’s fullest potential. i even have my students use it. they love it and use it every single day.
as far as i can tell, fade in is the only program that will export to final draft, and it exports from final draft, without requiring any third-party plug-ins. this has made the app especially useful for me, because i could just copy scenes from one final draft draft into another. ive worked this way before with celtx, but that requires you to buy a third-party plug-in (which i didnt find very useful), and i didnt find it easy to get everything exported when i was working with final draft. but when i tried fade in, it worked flawlessly. ive also been able to use fade in to import scenes from final draft into the other writing programs, and that works flawlessly as well. so, ive been a happy camper with fade in. it does take a little learning to figure out how it works, but its well worth the effort.
however, i do have one complaint about the app that i think is pretty serious: fade in doesnt seem to support story outlines (or at least, it didnt for me). i was using it for an outline, but i wasnt able to import a story outline. ive used celtx and word perfect, and they both have outline features, so i know they work well with story outlines. i also know fade in can export stories in outline form, so im not sure what the deal is. if you find this feature valuable, then you should check out fade in 3, which does have outline support. i also recommend checking out drafts, another affordable screenwriting program from the same company, because its free and it does have outline support. drafts also includes fade in, so you can make a fade in template and export to drafts.
