Lets put it this way; Darna Mana Hai is the kind of film that lives and dies with its cinematography. Though it lacks character development, its pacing is perfect. The pauses are also well timed, and the camera lingers on certain locations with some well timed angles to make you feel a sense of tension and dread.

1920 is I suppose best described as the Indian answer to movies such as Conjuring, The Exorcism and Amityville Horror. We start with a haunted house that many have tried to tear down but something has always stopped them. The new owners move in a the wife soon becomes possessed by a very evil demon. The demonic possession is clearly inspired The Exorcism, but gets so crazy in places it is more like Scary Movie going just a little but too far. It is a Hindi movie but set in the western civilisation which is why you have a strange mix of traditional British setting but Hindi Actors.
As far as the Ramsay films go, they were the pioneers of [the] horror [genre] in India. Weve had some great horror films likes Aruna Rajes Gehrayee (1980), then Ram Gopal Varmas Raat (1992). But the horror that we associate with, is the pulp horror by the Ramsays that was very successful. Horror got a face into the mainstream not with the Ramsays, they had a separate audience. Vikram Bhatt managed to give due respect to horror, in the sense that his films had a commercial viability, it had songs. So, I give lot of credit to Vikram Bhatt.
3.The Boss (Vivek Oberoi) For me,they didnt need to produce a new version of the famous movie Tevar (1990) to name Tevar as the boss.The character of Vivek Oberoi as the gangster boss is just as very interesting.This is his second movie,after Ek Duje Ke Liye,and both movies are based on Tevar novel by the same writer.Vivek is good in both films,but his acting as the boss is definitely his best performance.I think it would be better if the director would take the character from the 1990 version,but it still looks so good on Vivek.All the supporting cast does well,not much to comment. Nana Patekar and Vivek Oberoi go well together on screen as a duo of gangster boss and his underboss,but the surroundings look a bit weird.Vivek doesnt have a smooth dialogue with his underboss,but he has some funny lines,which the viewer dont expect.Like the general impression of the movie,I also find the dance sequences too long,but they look very good.
Rana Duggal: My take on the movie was that it was a good glimpse into my experiences and I like to see more of such films like this with some other characters as well. But I felt that apart from this one, there were no other such movies (of this genre) and if that remains so then I also don’t feel that a substantial role for genre films in today’s Bollywood (and India’s Hindi Cinema in general) is really warranted. Hindi film-makers need to acknowledge the genre and maybe then they would be able to make better films that might retain the audience that they have.
