I’ve been following this game for a long time, but finally got a chance to download it and start playing.
I thought it was really good up to a point. It started out pretty good with multiple difficulty levels and the original character designs. I was able to beat the first level the first time through, but each subsequent level was much more difficult, with few (if any) checkpoints and a never-ending climb up the difficulty ladder.
The gameplay was alright. I loved seeing all the characters like a standard RPG. I’m not a very good RPG player, so many of the mechanics were kind of confusing to me. For example, I couldn’t just walk into a random dungeon and kill things with my sword. Instead, I had to find an NPC who could open the dungeon gates for me. And I couldn’t just go into a whole dungeon without paying any money, because everything in the game had a price that the NPC would quote to me when I entered the dungeon. And all the monsters are completely optional. They don’t attack me unless I do the same thing to them that they do to me.
Aside from the gameplay, I also like the story. I usually don’t play games with great stories, but this game has a great story that you can enjoy through either of the two alternate routes. It’s a unique story, with a unique monster design, and I was really impressed by that.
It gets down right to a point where the difficulty starts ramping up to 11. The combat is hard, and you run into an awful lot of enemies. You have to find a way to manage your food reserves and magic. If you don’t have a way to manage that, then the difficulty level will push you into starvation mode and make you unable to keep fighting. The story takes a pause while you get back some of your strength.
The graphics aren’t bad for an indie game. It looks better than most
