What a weird game. I have been playing this for just over a week now, and I have hit a couple of major bottlenecks in the last couple of days. The first issue is how the game handles connecting players. Each time I log on a new player is standing in front of me, and we cannot run around the world together or even get close to each other. It doesn’t matter if I or the new player have at least completed half the game already (even though I have done so much more than him/her), the game refuses to connect us. The second major flaw is the fact that you can only speak to the other characters by conversing with them in dialogues, which become increasingly hard the further into the game you get. I’m glad that there is a party system, but the dungeons are so long that I feel like they need to be shortened with a lot of cutscenes. At the end of the day it’s really hard to recommend this game because I haven’t seen any content besides the pre-made dungeons. I’m hoping that the creators will add more content in the near future, as the game features a very fresh feeling, dark setting, and interesting story, but as it stands now, it’s just missing one crucial ingredient to become a real RPG: mechanics. I would not recommend this game for newcomers to the genre, especially not if they are looking for a party-based MMORPG. It is hard to describe the feelings when you are playing Tarnished. One moment you feel that you’re on top of the world, the next moment you are lost in deep sorrow. The game introduces a lot of unpredictable elements, like the presence of demons in dungeons or the fact that your character can see the past. The presentation of the game is excellent. Voice acting, an interesting story, gorgeous art and lighting effects are all simply irresistible. On top of that, the music as well as the sound effects are absolutely wonderful. The game offers a lot of content, plenty of missions to complete, as well as multiple endings for your character. However, you can’t finish the game without leveling up your character, and the fact that all you can do is walk around the world and talk to NPCs is incredibly boring. Furthermore, there are a couple of issues with the combat system. While I can’t really complain about the basic mechanics, I feel that the game could have been designed in a much better way.
