#5. Improved Home Screen: Sure, Android has the virtual honeycomb of homescreen panels. However, users tend to have more icons on their homescreens than they really need and instead end up with an endless jumble of widgets waiting to be turned off. While a tweak kit can remove all of the “junk” on the home screens, widgets, and apps, it doesn’t remove all of the bloat that’s on the home screens and no one ever seems to notice or touch on it. The hotseat feature lets you place up to four apps in the “hotseat”. In the hotseat, a user can tap the main home button, and then select an app from the list of apps in the hotseat. If the user has four apps in the hotseat, when they tap the main home button a list of apps appears, which the user can then tap on to launch the app.
#2. Folders: In its infancy, Android featured “pico” and “katzenjäger” launchers. In version 4.0 it added a system wide folder that not only allowed for folders but themes as well, making it one of the first high-end launchers to take advantage of Lollipop.
Android, as a platform for mobile apps, works on the same principle as an operating system on your PC. It’s the most important element, but the most basic–without Android, apps couldn’t exist.
