Enantiomerically enriched chiral molecules can be produced by fermentation. However, this technique is limited to microorganisms which naturally produce such compounds, and only a limited number of compounds can be produced at one time. Thus, the technique is not suitable for the large-scale production of enantiomerically pure compounds.
