Each page in the test contains two reading sets consisting of 25 items in sections (from A to D). After a warm-up reading, followed by a timed test of 10-15 minutes, the trainee reads a second set of sets. Each set contains 75 items, divided equally between items measuring recognition of correct responses to reading prompts, grammatical forms, lexical choices in context, and questions on comprehension. Where items are of equal difficulty, a test with sections of the same length [that is, 100 items] can be constructed. However, in practice 100 items are not feasible, but the same levels of difficulty can be achieved. Since the training population studied in this research was small, it is possible that the levels of difficulty were not spread evenly. Therefore, the number of correct answers necessary to reach the level 2 standard was used as the criterion for differentiation between levels 1 and 2.

The tests provide a chart of results for the trainee in each section. They also provide a chart of results for the local interpreter. The interpreter marks the correct responses of the trainee.
