You don’t have to unlock it, so it’s just there for information. From there, you can select “Town Map” if you want to view the map of the main town, and then every time you open a new area a map will open up showing exactly where you are. This is great for when you’re going through new areas, as you can see where you are and where you can go, and it makes it easier to go to where you’re going without getting lost.
