Originally released as an app for the iOS operating system, Elder Sign: Omens of the Undead is a Fantasy Action RPG that seamlessly merges the game mechanics of tabletop role-playing games and card games to create a story with a rich universe and plotline.
The player character is named Edward and his companion is Magnus, who was summoned to the demiplane through mysterious means. Together, Edward and Magnus struggle to traverse the Lands Between, the dimensions of magic and monsters that lie between the mortal world of the living and the realm of the dead.
A Plot that Reinterprets One of D&D’s Finest Classics
A new cast of characters appears as the plot unfolds, bringing to life a story that merges classic D&D plotlines with the story elements of Norse mythology and Lovecraftian horror.
The plot is a mysterious one, where the player character encounters otherworldly monsters that may be the embodiment of an ancient evil. In the process, the mystery unravels as the player explores the secrets of the game world and the Lands Between, while the companions and other characters on the player’s team face enormous challenges.
An Evolution of the Elder Sign Game Mechanic
Elder Sign: Omens of the Undead is not a remake of the original Elder Sign tabletop RPG. Instead, it reimagines the Elder Sign story in an action-RPG that puts the gameplay of role-playing games and card games side by side.
The gameplay integrates the Elder Sign card mechanics with a role-playing-game-like state-based battle system. In addition to the turn-based battle system, the game also includes a card mechanic that allows players to build decks from cards that they collect during the game.
The card mechanic is integrated directly into the combat system, and allows players to use cards as elemental magic and items for active skill use.
