this is a 2 hour 20 minute movie, and they start off with a closeup of someones face for like 1 minute. then they randomly show a giant closeup of a female hand for like 3 minutes. then they show a giant closeup of someone making a face for like 3 minutes. then they throw in a closeup of a man kissing someone for like 3 minutes. then they just show closeups of kangs face for the next 9 minutes. this was all before the movie started. it was like a 10 minute opening. thats like a 10 minute opening to a 15 minute movie. thats just weird.
movie has great potential in the lead up to the fashion show, while it is a bit lacking during the fashion show. i felt the story was more about the cop trying to keep up with the models and the fashion world, but failed to address the initial problem. i wasnt enthralled by the fashion world, but if they had a story to tell, i think it could have been better executed.
although kang is a capable actor who has good comedic timing, he is not the best fit for the role of a horribly dressed cop. he looked awful and he was the one person who made me roll my eyes more than any other. sung was a little better but she was also a bit too pretty to be believable as a street thug. but those were all minor issues. the real problem with runway cop is that the script is awful, i couldnt tell what was going on for most of the time. the way the story was told, it was like there was no real plot. it just went from set up, to set up, to set up, to set up, just for the sake of it, with no real direction. the satire could have been better if the script was just a little better. there were some funny moments, but not enough to make up for the overall mediocrity of the film.
haeundae beach, haeundae beach, haeundae beach! can you blame me for loving this song? for me, the haeundae beach will always be one of my favorite places in korea. i will forever associate the beach with the song. one of the most beautiful romantic korean songs to me. the song is sung by famous korean actor kang ji-hwan, and the movie has a similar theme. while kang ji-hwan is always good, this movie didnt quite live up to my expectations. i didnt know if i could like it, and i didnt know if i would. however, once the movie started, i was ready to watch this movie. i was ready to laugh and enjoy a movie with kang ji-hwan, and i was not disappointed. while kang ji-hwan hasnt been in the most popular movies, and while i dont think that this movie would have made a big splash in the international market, i think that this movie will definitely be a hit in the korean market.
the movie is actually based on the hit south korean drama of the same name. however, it is more of a spin-off and is not as much of a sequel to the original series. in the movie, the characters (and the actors who played those characters) who have come back from the original series are not included.
