In my last blog I mentioned that I had heard of Harlow’s getting in trouble for serving no meat at their football tailgate parties. I even mentioned a few cases where it actually happened. So it got me thinking, wow, what would it take for my area to actually get some prosecutions?
They have always been one of the nicer places to eat and hang out. In fact, it’s a unique atmosphere in a city with very few outdoor dining places. So when I told my staff about the new Harlow’s location, I was at a loss for words. I don’t think I’ve ever heard such a fervent crowd urging that they be able to eat at a restaurant.

I shoot and process Pentax DA cameras. Most of it is in RAW and that is where I add my custom settings. I process quite a few until they are good. My setup is a pretty inexpensive Canon EOS 100D, 5D Mark III and IBIS. I would like to get a higher end processor and maybe a tripod. The reason I say it is dangerous is I do not have a good reason to go with not doing it.
Most times after editing the 5D Mark III, my first preview showing up on my screen is really bad. Basically it just shows some of the grass and other landscape and still sees the image as a Pentax. The camera is NOT set to Pentax in the processing settings and RAW is not the only image type.
Can anyone point me to a setting that may be the reason?A:
The 5DIII is excellent for post-processing work, and the RAW images can be processed on the 5DIII to near transparency. (You’ll need to run Tethered Capture in order to process them, however, and I haven’t tried it.) If you have a good raw processor you already have that part covered. Is there anything in particular you’re finding troublesome? I’m guessing there might be an issue with the RAW to DNG converter.
If you’re having trouble with the actual photoshop, I can recommend to you the free version of Adobe Lightroom 4, and it has a feature called Tone Curve that does something of the same kind of thing as the RAW to DNG converter. It allows you to transform (linearly, or into something more gritty) the color in the image. The curve can be set to target any color in the image that you like, so it’s not a bad place to start to fine-tune your photos – if you have a lot of images and this feature is important to you, try the suite.
Another candidate is ICM (Image Color Management) – it’s a free, open-source color management solution that provides many of the same functions as both DA\RAW to DNG converter and Photoshop’s Tone Curve and Gamut Warning modules. Adobe just recently released Lightroom 5 with improved support for this software.
