there was no way to create my own city, or even share my city with other players. i expected this, of course, given that simcity is an online-only game, but i didn’t realize that i couldn’t even share an existing city with other players. it’s not like any other simcity game i’ve played in the past. that’s sad. i’ve played simcity since the original simcity, and that’s the only game i’ve ever played with this many hours of playtime. i don’t know what i’d do without it.

simcity buildit’s launch is far from perfect, however. the game launches with six pre-made urban areas, each of which is the size of a two-square-mile (five-square-kilometer) area. but rather than present you with a list of them, the game simply gives you an address; that is, it tells you where you can buy or rent land. it then asks you for a name. youll need to do this multiple times if you want to play on more than one of the six areas, but who knows how many times youll actually play buildit?

buildit then asks you to name your new city. i recommend building your city in a place that is near a body of water, or with land that slopes in one direction. for example, i purchased all of my land in a valley. the tradeoff is that buildit will be a bit harder for you to connect to the rest of the internet, but that also means that youll have a bit more control over your citys landscape. the game also asks for an address, which you can choose from a list of addresses in your simcity. so, your city may end up somewhere like the following, which i created on the west coast of the united states. the city consists of a downtown area and a residential suburb, with another suburb in the west and a lake in the east. i also created an outpost that allowed me to trade with other players, and i bought some land in the united states and canada to connect to the rest of the world. the other major geographical feature in my game is the tundra in the north.

i don’t think that’s the best approach. instead, you should think of this as a way to help your sims work their way out of a tough situation by making the best choices in the moment. simcity buildit is a tool for helping to understand the relationships between these problems, and understanding those relationships can help you make better decisions. (without that, you’re just buying guns and lockouts to try to cover up the problem until it’s too late.)
if your simcity is in this mode, you need to put your game in this mode, by switching to it manually. to put your game into this mode, go to options > gameplay, and choose this mode. when you’re in this mode, you can use cheats.
it is a year or so since i bought the original simcity. now that my kids are older and off at college, i can devote more time to it, but my interest is waning. my family is still enjoying it – despite my other concerns – and i can enjoy the game via ipad. i can take advantage of the touchscreen and the touchscreen controls of the ipad, which i find more responsive than the original keyboard controls. i can also play the game in the dark.
this guide is written in three sections. the first section requires your computer to be online to download and install the game. the second section of the guide is written for people who already have the game installed and want to play simcity is offline mode. the third section explains how to use multiple computers on the same origin account.
ah, yeah, theyre in the house. i bought the simcity game for my ipad and it didn’t come with the 3d version of simcity 4, so i figured i’d give this one a shot. its surprisingly good for an ipad game. as i was playing it, i thought, that’s really quite a feat for a game that was made by a team that had only been designing computer games for two years. i was impressed.
