once again, i attempted to take a stab at reviewing a single application. believe it or not, this single product has 12 versions. that, my friends, gives you a whole lot to sort through. i chose to review one version of the app. (note: at this time, the driver update version is 2.2.16918.26185.)

the app is well laid out and easy to follow. while the new interface is cleaner and more informative, the terminology is the same. the app let me know the status of my drivers and their status, outlined the drivers i have on my system, and let me know which driver updates are available for download. the menu is easy to access and organize by section.

the system approach is both refreshing and valuable. by not overwhelming the user with too much information, the app notifies the user when a driver update is available and updates that driver with ease. i also like that the app shows the average time of each update. (as a side note, i was surprised to find that some of my drivers were listed as something like 3.5 years old. but, hey, its not like i have been using linux or any other operating system for the last 3.5 years, hehe.)

next, youll check for a window updates section. windows updates tells you when a particular version of your drivers has a new available update. this is helpful if you need to install drivers that match the version of your device drivers.

lastly, the supported software section let’s you know which versions of the drivers are compatible with the hardware devices that you have on your pc. as a general rule, older drivers are not compatible with newer hardware.

once driverupdate downloaded and installed the drivers, i had to install an updated version of bitdefender anti-virus free 2013 ($49.95, 3.5 stars). bitdefender is a well-known security application, and its free version comes with limited protection. but, the free version was enough to keep this virus from interfering with the rest of the utility’s operation.
