the hidden, the story of a woman who goes on a killing spree after a violent encounter with an alien, is a classic, throw-away sci-fi horror film from the mid-1980s. it’s extremely simple in premise and the plot is as basic as they come. however, the film isn’t a total waste of time, as the script is surprisingly well written and there are some decent ideas scattered throughout the film. the effects in the hidden are also quite decent, considering the film was made in 1987.
the acting in the hidden is pretty good, with michael nouri as the lead detective who is trying to find the killer’s identity. michael nouri is a veteran actor who has made numerous films, from the first season of csi: crime scene investigation to the recent sitcom daddy day care. nouri is very likeable as the detective, he does a great job at being believable as an honest, good-hearted cop who wants to do the right thing in this situation.
kyle mclaughlan plays the fbi agent who is sent to los angeles to try and stop the killer. mclaughlan is a decent actor, with a very distinctive voice. he’s also got a few other horror film credits under his belt, including films like black christmas and cursed. the main problem with the hidden is that its a ridiculously short film that doesn’t leave you wanting more. the characters are underdeveloped and the film is definitely not as well-written as it could be. nevertheless, if you’re looking for a cheap, cheesy watch, the hidden is worth a look.
the hidden is one of those awful 80s sci-fi horror b-movies that nobody ever talks about. the film has a fairly simple, underdeveloped story that is even worse than it sounds. while the film relies heavily on action, it is also amusing at times, with some good character dialogue and stunts. what’s more, the film has some good ideas, including the idea that a person can be possessed by an alien. what’s a little more interesting than that?
i guess my biggest problem with the film is that it is very quick. the film is only 74 minutes, which isn’t a lot for a feature-length film. however, it’s not long enough to keep you entertained for more than a few minutes. if you want a quick, not-so-subtle scare, the hidden is definitely worth a look. it’s an awful film, but it’s also pretty fun.
