Understanding tool palettes
You have three types of tool palettes to choose from:
* The menubar tool palette (refer to Figure 7-1)
* The toolbox tool palette (refer to Figure 7-2)
* The panel tool palette (refer to Figure 7-3)
**Figure 7-1:** This is the standard menubar tool palette.
**Figure 7-2:** This is the traditional toolbox tool palette.
**Figure 7-3:** The panels tool palette adds panels to the sides or the top of your image.
Photoshop offers several ways to customize the tool palettes, including
* **Using the Windows Control Panel:** Access the Windows Control Panel and use the Tool Palettes option to add or remove the tool palettes and tool box tools.
Start in the Windows Control Panel and choose Tool Palettes from the left side menu in the control panel. Then simply follow the prompts to add tool palettes to your Photoshop Windows installation.

Getting started Edit
The Adobe Photoshop Elements environment has 10 tabs when launched.

The home tab is the main tab, where the contents of the program are kept.
The tab on the left includes a small sample of the preview window, a “workspace” (window) where the camera (raw) and cursor (paintbrush) are located, a history of all the images, a timeline for undoing and redoing, and a list of all of the layers and selections.
The main part of the tab is the toolbox, where all of the tools and panels are located.
The toolbox was previously called the palettes.
Toolbox Edit
The tools are divided into nine groups: Painting, Layers, Actions, Drawing Tools, Effects, Moving Tools, Selection Tools, Tools, and Miscellaneous. A maximum of three tools can be selected at any one time. Click the button to view the type of the tool that is highlighted, or “mode” of that tool. It is noted that if the “mode” of the tool that was selected is not the same as the current mode of the toolbox, the tool may not work correctly. If this happens, select the tool’s mode that is desired, and press Ctrl+J to switch to the correct mode.
The function for the tools is called “function”. For example: “Paint > Eraser” functions as the Eraser tool, and “Layers > Curves > Auto Levels” functions as Auto Levels.
The Paint tool is used to paint, paint over, or paint specific areas of an image. There are three different modes for the Paint tool: Standard, Full-Screen, and Local.
The Standard mode works in the same way as in the professional version.
The Full-Screen mode works by displaying an image similar to a digital paper that can be used to paint on.
The Local mode works on the image being edited. The user must zoom in on the image before they can work on it.

To investigate the impact of endothelial dystrophy on the accuracy of measuring the cell area in specular microscopy images after Descemet stripping and endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK) and to assess the image quality of DSAEK donor lenticules. Retrospective, comparative case series. Seventy-five DSAEK donor lenticules. Lenticule endothelial microscopy images were obtained using a noncontact specular microscope. The specular microscopy images from each specimen were analyzed manually and automatically. The cell area measurements on each image were compared to the donor cell area. We also evaluated the artifact generation in the DSAEK donor lenticules by the use of different techniques to dissect and mount the lenticules.
