The Windows 7 OS is just around the corner and you know what that means? A new version of Paint! It’s all the stuff we have come to expect from Paint in Windows Vista and Windows 7 and more. I have a long-standing obsession with drawing diagrams, so I had to share some information about the latest version.
Creating a new diagram
To create a new diagram, select New > Diagram. This brings up a dialog that has several different types of diagrams to choose from. For our purposes, we will be using a diagram that is known as a flowchart.
A flowchart is essentially a series of boxes (representing a series of choices) that are connected by lines. The lines are there to represent the paths that a computer would take if it were making a series of choices.
By default, there are a couple of boxes available. If you want to place a single box, select Add rectangle. If you want to add more than one, select Add rectangles.
We want to place this box on a white background, so click Background and choose white as the color. Then click and hold to select the box, and drag it to the desired location. The boxes and lines of the diagram should look like the one below.
After you have drawn your diagram, the next step is to add some text. Clicking and dragging to place the text box and then typing some text. The size and placement of the text is completely up to you, as long as it’s on top of the box.
After you are happy with your text, you can click any box or line and it will turn blue. Clicking on the boxes removes them from the diagram. Clicking on a line closes it. When you are ready to see your final work, you can save it to your computer.
You can find the file on your computer by opening Windows Explorer, finding your Documents folder, and navigating to it. You will find a file named Paint
