overview: kodak ektar 25 was a semi-professional negative film originally produced in 1989. the ektar line was later discontinued and rebranded under the royal gold namein the mid 1990s. it was known for having incredible colors & clarity, as well as virtually no film grain. this film produces slightly brighter colors, with deeper blacks and greater pop than ektachrome. it also produces more glowing skin tones.

i view the 06 preset pack like i view all of the others by vsco– incredibly great starting points. for them to really fit your work and what you want to say, they have to be adjusted to your liking. understanding lightroom is important to know how to get the end results you want. i had to spend time personalizing these presets to get them where i wanted but i always ended up with something i liked. for me, the + and – were the only ones i’d use. everything else what a bit over the top for my liking.

what is vsco cam vsco cam is a popular mobile photography app available for iphone and android. if you dont already use it, i would encourage you try it out and purchase some of their outstanding preset packs (note: im not affiliated with vsco in any way – just a fan). mobile photographers like vsco cam in large part due to the beautiful presets it offers. their filters feel more professional and more refined than the filters in instagram (which are just awful, honestly). so when you see people on instagram tagging their posts with #vsco, this means they used the vsco cam app to process their photo.

kodak’s ektachrome 64 was introduced in 1965. it was the second commercial color reversal film available for the 35mm camera. the first was in 1956 with the introduction of fuji’s imaconat, which was also the first color film for the 35mm camera. kodak’s ektachrome 64 could be used as a direct positive in the same way as fuji’s imaconat. the 64 has a very flat, slightly dull appearance, a high degree of saturation, and a golden sheen.

overview: in the real world, this film has a very saturated blue, and a very saturated green, which would tend to ruin your image on a typical digital sensor. with vsco film you have the option to filter each of the three channels, giving you a bit more control over the exact look you want. the vsco film presets for fuji and canon cameras use settings similar to the e100g and e100vs packs. this pack uses a slightly lower saturation than that, with a stronger blue and a stronger green. this is one of the most saturated presets you can get, so if you want a more subtle version of this, check out the e100g or e100vs packs.
the camera that is shooting this is a canon with the original 24-105 lens. this film was shot with a canon eos 5d. there is a small amount of color data loss due to the age of the film, and this would also affect the original image quite a bit. there are people who like this film even more, but for most people i’d say this is one of the most extreme variations of this film out there. it’s a great way to see what it’s like to process your own images with really strong colors. just be warned, the full range of the film is quite radical!
the film is a bit softer than e100g or e100vs, so you can see how it’s much less saturated. it’s more in line with the original image, and the colors are more muted. it’s a great example of how you can get a very different look from the same film without changing the film itself. there are more subtle variations to this film, so you can see all of them here.
