her ninth studio album, and first for arista, this collection of songs is a really nice showcase of some of the best of the earlier part of her career. whitney has always been a fantastic vocalist, and this album has some really fantastic songs. highlights include the brilliant 14th floor elevators-sampling one of those days, and a cover of bob kingsleys do it again. the album also features a duet with stevie wonder, youll always have a friend here (aka friend to me), which is the best thing that came out of stevies turn to the gospel-folk scene in the late 90s. the other big surprise on here is a duet with another singer who has since become a pop icon, brandy. its the cheiron-produced you make my sun shine that really shines, though, as it showcases whitneys best vocal performance to date, and a rare bit of emotional honesty on an album full of them. and for a little variety, there is a re-recording of the bodyguard theme, which thankfully doesnt sound half as sappy as the original.

sometimes its nice to see a singer who has enjoyed a certain degree of success return to their roots and give a more pure vocal performance. bobby brown is a good case in point, as he sounds a bit better on this album than he ever has before, and even comes across as somewhat genuine. brown and his crew were recently victims of a terrible scam, and though the album isnt exactly a gut-punching reminder of that, it does at least give the record a bit more context. that doesnt mean it makes for a great album, though, as the songs are pretty bland, and the album follows a pretty familiar format. the best moment here is probably a cover of the o.c. smiths boat on the wall, which is a pretty bleak-sounding blues song. this is browns first studio album since 1999s stork

The order came in a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union on behalf of Georgetown University Law Center’s Office of Diversity and Community Engagement. The lawsuit challenges the so-called “school-to-prison pipeline,” a term that describes the process by which schools discipline students and push them out of school into the juvenile justice system.
According to the lawsuit, the office’s work had recently taken on an added urgency following Sessions’ enforcement of the 2018 campus crime statistics. As part of that enforcement, Sessions ordered the office to collect on campus reports of “suspicious activity” — defined as “unusual behavior that differs from the usual or standard practice” — and turn those reports into criminal cases.
The lawsuit argued that these “suspicious activity” reports were already commonplace on college campuses — and that the policy was an offensive effort to criminalize behavior that is predominantly the result of mental health and substance abuse issues. The office, the lawsuit argued, relied on a “suspect set of assumptions and stereotypes” about black and Latino students and then asked schools to turn them into criminal cases in a system with a historically high and growing number of racial disparities.
“Racial profiling is a symptom of a broader problem of racial disparity in the juvenile justice system,” the lawsuit argues. “Our country remains far from perfect, but last year the Supreme Court ruled that school-to-prison programs like the one this office administers in its law school can no longer be justified by the ‘important governmental interests’ in ‘combatting violence and
