I have the same issue. I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 with an Intel dual core CPU. I downloaded the updates from the Windows Store and all of a sudden I can’t manage to install the updates.
So, I have 2 issues now, the first one is that the update popup shows the updates and my downloads get really fast but it won’t allow me to install them. The error is about 3/4 of the way through the process where you have to click ‘apply’. During that time there’s just a spinning badge, without progress bar or anything. After some more time it says, “The operation completed successfully”, but Windows and the update are still stuck on “Waiting for another application to close”.
The second issue is that every time I go to manage updates, Windows says: “This component has been marked as not applicable for the selected action. No updates are available for this component”. Anyway, that’s it. The servers are completely updated (like 98% according to system information) and it still won’t install any update.

I am having the same problem as someone else. I have downloaded all the updates and none of them will install. I even tried the dongle method and the updates will not install. When I try to install updates it says that it cannot connect to the Windows Store. Once again this is not even the first time I have tried to download updates through the Windows Store.
I have tried all versions from Windows 7 Home to Windows 7 Pro. I am running Windows 7 Professional
I don’t have any other problems with my computer. I just can’t update the updates.

I’m here after finally upgrading to 7 on a system that used to work beautifully on XP. It’s a Q6600 box with a Realtek 8111C integrated NIC. I was having the same problem: File copy over CIFS to a Nexenta file server virtualized over ESXi is extremely slow and ties up the network. You can imagine that having such a convoluted setup led me into having a fairly long debugging session, and I went through network cables, switches, file servers and everything until finally finding this thread and figuring that the problem lies somewhere in the software stack of Windows 7 networking and file copy.

You really need to try to work all or some of those variables into this stream to tell what’s going on. In my case, it’s wifi on a 48″ television with a Pioneer DX-W3550 DVD player. The VIrtual FX is set to 1080i while the DVD player is set to 720p. Here are some variables to consider: The wifi card is Intel 2100bg – have had to blacklist it to get it to even see the network. Driver issue, maybe. The network card is Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411/8711 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller – driver issue The computer is dual-core 2.83Ghz (though the 2.33Ghz setting doesn’t work) i5-2500 with 4GB of DDR3 RAM. I have the SRT (System Recovery Tool) preinstalled to avoid any roadblocks. The version of Ubuntu I’m using is the 10.10 LTS (Lucid Lynx) – w/ MTP (Media Transfer Protocol). The MTP setting (available in any/every media player – let’s see if there’s a Windows 7 addition to do this), I believe, is responsible for the video’s audio and video sync problems, which I generally found to be acceptable. The files are mostly videos in MP4 format.
As a stepping stone to Windows 8, Windows 7 is probably one of the best operating systems I’ve ever had the pleasure to use. The UI is so slick and polished, and everything just seems right. It has the features that developers of all types of programs always look for, and those that they often get wrong. File copy/compression/sending/receiving are some of the most basic operations that software developers deal with. Often file copy/compression/sending/receiving are “one size fits all” operations. (I never had one make copy of a file, then compress it…thanks god, your kidding right?) But with the age of information, this is no longer true, and the built in programs that come with Windows are lacking.
