Full Text Available Previously we showed that Salvia miltiorrhiza (SM exerts an inhibitory effect against cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and heart failure (HF. Here we investigated the underlying mechanisms. SM decreased the expression of cyclin-dependent kinase 9 (Cdk9 and cyclin T1, the regulatory subunits of transcription factor P-TEFb, as well as the abundance of nascent RNA in cardiomyocytes. Nuclear export of cyclin T1 but not of Cdk9 was inhibited, resulting in the inhibition of phosphorylation of RNA polymerase II CTD. SM also reduced activities of Src kinase, tyrosine kinase Src, and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K. PP2, a Src inhibitor, partially reversed the inhibitory effect of SM on Cdk9 and cyclin T1 abundance. The present findings suggest that SM downregulates Cdk9 and cyclin T1 expression by impairing PI3K-mediated nuclear export of Cdk9 and cyclin T1, resulting in the inhibition of P-TEFb activity, which might serve as a novel strategy for the treatment of HF.portlet.company portlet.phone portlet.people portlet.contacts portlet.newapp portlet.account portlet.offers portlet.viewapp portlet.loans portlet.report portlet.useapp portlet.com.com portlet.phone.com portlet.image.com portlet.mail.com portlet.lotto.com portlet.strategies.com portlet.finance.com portlet.e-papers.com portlet.mybusiness.com portlet.reports.com portlet.bmw.

Wound healing has being extensively investigated over the world. Healing impairment is caused by many reasons including increasing of free-radicals-mediated damage, delaying in granulation tissue formation, reducing in angiogenesis and decreasing in collagen reorganization. These facts consequently lead to chronic wound healing. Piper betle Linn (Betle) leaves have been folklore used as an ingredient of drugs for cutaneous wound treatment. However, the effect of betle leaf on wound healing is not yet well elucidated. In this study, we aimed to investigate the healing efficacy of methanol leaf extract of Piper betle Linn on proliferation of fibroblast NIH3T3 cells as well as full-thickness burn and excision wounds in swiss mice. Scratch wound healing assays were conducted to examine the effects of betle leaf extract on healing activity of fibroblast cells. Burn and excision wounds on swiss mouse skins were created for investigating the wound healing progress caused by the betle leaf extract. Malondialdehyde (MDA) was also evaluated to examine the products of lipid hydroperoxide (LPO) under conditions of with or without betle leaf extract treatment. The results of this study showed that Piper betle Linn leaf extract in methanol increased proliferation of NIH3T3 cells and promoted wound healing in vitro and in vivo with both burn wound and excision wound models. In addition, this extract significant decreased level of malondialdehyde (MDA) in liver of treated-mice compared with that in non-treated mice. Our results suggest that Piper betle Linn can be used as an ingredient in developing natural origin drugs for treatment of cutaneous wounds.

Full Text Available Breast cancer affects around 1 in every 10 women and is the most common cancer affecting women. In 2012, about 2.1 million women were newly diagnosed with breast cancer and about 627,000 women succumbed to the disease. In developing countries as Egypt, breast cancer mortality rate is still high. Screening mammography is now recognized as the most effective method of detecting early breast cancer. This method is effective as it is associated with reduced breast cancer mortality rates. In this study we highlight the effectiveness of low-dose chest x-ray films in detecting early breast cancers using the radiographic films of non-irradiated mammograms taken before and after surgical resection of breast tumors. We report the successful detection of early breast cancers detected on high resolution low-dose chest x-ray film (HR-LD chest x-ray film (CXR, with exposure time of 0.2 sec and total X-ray dose of 250-500 mAs compared to digital mammograms (DM, the current standard of breast screening, resulting in increased detection of early breast cancer and potential for reduced mortality. The enhanced detection of early breast cancers is achieved by the capability of HR-LD CXR to capture a greater number of mammographic morphologies compared to DM, thus detecting early cancers that cannot be adequately detected by DM. The use of HR-LD CXR reduced radiation dose and increased the detection rate of early breast cancer in comparison to DM.
Full Text Available Abstract Background One of the major advances in the chemotherapy of malignant disease in recent years has been the invention of several new drugs such as taxanes and the development of new combinations that are less toxic and less expensive to the patients. However, chemotherapy remains one of the principal treatment modalities in the management of solid tumor malignancies. Case report Objective We report here an unusual effect of tamoxifen on ovarian epithelial cancer metastasis from a uterine origin. A 39-year-old patient with a history of leiomyosarcoma in the uterus and treatment with tamoxifen presented with painless bilateral adnexal masses. Preliminary diagnosis of ovarian carcinoma was made and surgical excision of masses performed. Histopathology of specimens revealed malignant epithelial lesions composed of cells arranged in papillary and glandular structures. Immunohistochemistry of tumor specimens revealed CK7, CK8, CK18, EMA, ER and PgR positivity. Ovarian metastasis of leiomyosarcoma from a uterine primary that was resistant to tamoxifen. Conclusions Tamoxifen is a potent antineoplastic agent that is often used in the treatment of neoplastic diseases. However, tamoxifen is considered as a risk factor in the development of secondary neoplasms. Therefore, it is important to recognize and treat secondary neoplasms before they become clinically significant. Tamoxifen has been associated with a wide variety of neoplasms; however, ovarian metastasis from a uterine primary is an extremely rare event and only a few cases have been reported in the literature. Abstract Background We report a patient with an unusually extensive myocardial process resembling “knot” aneurysm in the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD). Pre-operative evaluation with multi-detector row computed tomography (CT) coronary angiography and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) identified the lesion as a saccular, intracoronary myocardial process and a focal myocardial abscess.
