Wu Tang Clan Wu-Tang Clan is an American hip hop group from New York City with nine members. The group has been regarded as one of the most influential hip hop groups of all time. The group’s most prominent members are MCs Ol’ Dirty Bastard and Raekwon, as well as rappers Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa, GZA, Ghostface Killah, and RZA. Initially formed in Brooklyn, the group would later relocate to Staten Island. The group’s primary style and technique is based on sampling and sampling variations by other hip-hop artists. Wu-Tang Clan’s style is also often considered to be on the “more political” end of the spectrum, and their lyrics focus on social issues (particularly race-related issues), the New York community, the music industry, and the latter-day careers of the group’s former members. RZA is the primary, instrumental producer, while GZA is the primary lyricist, and RZA handles the line-up, programming, and mixing. RZA and GZA were born and raised in the Queensbridge Housing Projects, while most of the other members were born and raised in Brooklyn.
