How it works?
To share files, a user adds them to the DistrPeer sharing queue. Then, the DistrPeer starts downloading the file from other users who have added it in the same queue. Once the user is done downloading all the pieces of the file, it will create a new DistrPeer session (Direct Peer Connection). In order to control the speed at which the DistrPeer sends each file to the user, it will perform a heuristic algorithm to find the best K pieces for each file, this is known as Piece Ratio Selection.

The following is a script of a P2P file sharing system I will be building. It uses FileNet and other file sharing methods like MegaShare and p2pShare. I will be using the free version of FileNet for now.
The problem I encountered is that peer 2 peers will use up to 30% of their CPU to transfer files and this is not very high.
I’m a very fast and experienced Perl coder, so I’m sure that I can make something great,
but I don’t have much time at the moment so I’m resorting to this.

The current problem is that you can not scale the P2P-app on your own server!
If you need to scale on your own server you are loosing the benefits of the P2P-system.
In your case this means that a P2P-app on your own server can not be a central peer.

Hi Tommie, I think a good idea is to use mget/mput for P2P file transfers. (see www.mbulberry.com/php/download_mget.php and ) In most P2P file sharing applications these are used in order to copy/move files between peers (in P2P-applications the peers are often called “leechers”, “peers” or something similar) Also see (features of the file sharing app).
Taking into account that vamps is an MP3 (media) P2P-system I would like to suggest to try out the P2P feature of vamps. You can find it in vamps/test/p2p-tests/test_files.

It also has a graphical interface and all usefull command line options.

What’s New in the DistrPeer?
Referring to the example given below, the downloader can download the file shadmo.exe (70MB) before being started or started first.
This can be done by right-clicking on the file shadmo.exe and choosing “Save As…”, and choosing the location where the file will be downloaded to.
This downloader is based on a third-party client called “DistrPeer”. DistrPeer is a Peer-to-Peer Distributed file sharing program. As opposed to being hosted on a server, the files are hosted locally by client users.
When downloading a file, DistrPeer will store the file on many users computers or storage media. In this case, users are designated to download the file or list of files.
Downloading more than one file with DistrPeer is easy. Just right click the file and select “Search for DistrPeer” if you already have downloaded the file and are looking for more other files.
When deciding to download the file, please make sure to have enough internet speed and an active internet connection. Because the file can take time to download. Please note that depending on the internet speed, distribution can become very slow. When the downloading process is started, the DistrPeer can take about 20 – 30 seconds, depending on the internet speed.
