Just when you thought RPG veterans would be able to rest and enjoy life after they’ve outgrown Final Fantasy games, along comes Tarnished, an RPG with a freshly aged and polished exterior. Despite being a technically proficient, well-made game, it’s very simple and repetitive, with more than a few missed opportunities and serious flaws.
The game begins with a conversation with an old man living in the forest, who gives you the quest to recover the power that’s “fallen” from the heart of the Earth. As you travel across the vast world, you discover that your character gained magical abilities, but the terrain is dangerous to those who aren’t used to wielding magic. You must collect seven crystals across the world to use magic, but this is where the game’s systems begins to break down.
While there’s plenty of running, jumping and sword swinging throughout the game, it never feels like more than a collection of abstract skills. These skills–collecting crystals, finding items and attacking enemies–happen with no warning or sign of difficulty.
Each of the action RPG’s 15 dungeons is filled with enemies and items, but attacking them is almost always an exercise in frustration, as they only drop the items you need at the start of each dungeon, making a tough fight a pointless grind.
The game’s battling system is an odd mix of melee and ranged attacks. Fireballs and slashes are given out for pounding enemies in the face, and arrows are used for ranged attacks. There are four kinds of magic attacks, each of which has its own inherent weaknesses and strengths, but even basic magic attacks will often hit nothing more than a black screen. These attacks usually take the form of button presses, but the in-game controls are extremely difficult to maneuver and fight in.
Combat is also strangely buggy. One of the game’s “bosses” might be a melee fighter with no ranged abilities, but he’ll still fight you one-on-one and be incredibly difficult. Combat encounters also have a weird tendency to break the game, leaving you stuck at a black screen.
Aside from the story, the game’s most well-developed element is its inventory. Items are stored in your backpack, which can be expanded by collecting items from fallen enemies. You can use your items to remove the

The field will be divided into a battle area and a trek area.

Background
Before the 18th century there was little formal government for the British overseas empire. As each British colony developed, the most senior person in a colony was known as the colonial governor, with the Captain-General being the second highest official. The role of colonial governors was not always clearly defined: for example, the position of Governor of Bengal remained largely honorary, until Lord William Bentinck appointed Henry Keene as Governor in 1795.
