Kotaku – 10/23/2013 – 2/10 “In a world full of simplistic Fantasy games, the release of Evangard is one of the best, if not the best RPG this year. While it isn’t perfect, it’s the perfect start to an RPG series that could catch on.” – Aaron (Giantsofty) I opened the box with trepidation…the whole weight of this game was in the box and I had just opened it. Upon removing the box and looking at my skybox image… “oh”. “Oh” is an understatement. It was like opening presents on Christmas Day with a puppy in the room and a pot of honey on the side. Once I got the image of how pretty the game looks and closed the box I was nearly comatose from an overload of information. There is a lot of stuff for this game! So let’s start out with the good stuff. Everything you could possibly want and need for this game is at least on par. You have a skybox (excluding the random map generation), you have a battle screen, you have a knowledge base, you have a map screen, etc. The first thing I really liked about this game was it was my first really good looking game. I’ve seen some of the other games with a similar look but none of them were like this. The battle screen, while not large, but has much more information and a small bit of style to it. The background image looks beautiful and really works well with everything else in the game. Speaking of the background, the art is very clean in this game. I love that there is clean and crisp art, but the art is never obtrusive or bad. The rooms and characters all have their own unique look. The enemy’s look and feel is a little different as they have a lot of room for art. They all have eyes, a belly, and they all have a slight drop. This is a really nice touch and I was really impressed with the amount of detail it has. Each enemy has about 15 things to animate and it’s a lot of animation. I watched this game play for about 3 hours total and I couldn’t see everything animate once. This game is very unique in its animation and actually has more animation than many other games out there.
