The number of options offered by Lumenzia are a bit overwhelming. TKActions’ menu isn’t as extensive, but allows me to get the job done right away, especially with Lumenzia’s in-built selections. TKActions is good for when I have an idea of what I want to do and need to create the mask, and Lumenzia is good for when I have a mask I want to create and it’s easier to clean up if I make a mistake, without having to re-create the entire mask.
No matter what program I used, the type of work I was doing was almost always the same. In Lumenzia, it was a matter of making sure I had a good selection and using the selections from there. I also used masks a lot, which was also much more prevalent with Lumenzia. TKActions was much less about masks, and a lot more about the curves adjustments. I think TKActions was better for images with a lot of noise or major under- or over- saturation problems.
Although both programs are easy to use, I found TKActions to be a bit more intuitive. Lumenzia’s user interface reminds me a little bit of Photoshop’s. It’s too much like Photoshop sometimes, it seems.
Conversely, Lumenzia was much better for portraits with the big eyes and thin lips. Lumenzia also didn’t have any built-in shadows adjustments, but I can easily do that on my own and have been doing this with Lumenzia. I’ve also been using TKActions for low-light shots that need a bit of a boost. I would probably lean towards Lumenzia if I were working on a special effect.
What I like about TKactions is how it works with variables. It’s extremely easy to apply one variable or several variables to a zone and control how it’s effected. With Lumenzia you have to adjust both the min and max variables individually, and even then it’s not as precise.
I bought TKActions about a year ago and have used it in every photo I’ve edited since then. I had not heard of Lumenzia until today after reading this thread, but after watching his video ( ) I went ahead and purchased it. Because I’ve used luminosity masks so extensively, there was very little learning curve involved for Lumenzia, so I think it’s reasonable to offer a comparison at this point.
With Lumenzia, I click on the button containing the mask I think I will want to use. (When you first start using luminosity masks, this will be a bit of trial and error, but as you become more familiar with them, you will almost always be one or two clicks away from generating the correct mask.) The mask is shown via a temporary layer using a Curves adjustment (which means I can tweak it if I want to). I then either click the Sel button in Lumenzia to create a selection (automatically removing the temporary layer in the process) or click one of the three adjustment layers Lumenzia offers. If I decide I need a slightly different mask, I click the mask I want and then click the re-mask button which replaces the current mask with the new mask (a huge time saver over TKActions).
Every now and then a post comes up on facebook and discussion about data files. Theres a simple answer, you already have all the data files you need in your link portfolio directory. TK asks to the new user to select the correct files, but theres also a simple solution. TK-ACTIONS Panel.torrent.
