When engineers and managers work on the structural health monitoring (SHM) problems, a focus is usually set on the reliability of instruments used to collect the deformation data (e.g. strain gauges). The main purpose of this research is to provide a SHM method of estimating strain using the structural curve and comparing the reliability and stability of various SHM methods, and to compare them with the reliability of the existing methods. The SHM methods include: the force equivalent method, the spectral feedback method, the force equivalent and spectral feedback method, the force equivalent and force feedback method and the spectral feedback method based on the force feedback method, as well as deformation calculation based on the spectral feedback method, the force equivalent and spectral feedback method and the force equivalent and force feedback method. The research results indicate that the instrumentation curve and frequency response of the stress-strain gauge are the main factors that affect the precision of the SHM method. The authors have developed an automatic and real-time calibration method of the stress-strain gauge based on a point-by-point least squares method and a point-by-point prediction method. In this paper, the calibration of strain gauge based on the spectral feedback method and force feedback method is also introduced.
